Welcome!

Australian Community Foods is a non-profit community service supporting organisations who work to increase our access to healthy, local food.

The main feature of this site is a geographic search and matching service. You can search for wholesome food near you by either browsing the State listings shown under each organisation, or use the geographic search form below to find all listings near your particular location.

This is a non-profit, community-driven process. We do not maintain the directory listings ourselves: people like you do.

To create your own listing or you need to sign yourself up for a free username and password.

Find out more information on how the site works, who we are, and how you can help.

If you're involved in a community garden, or farmer's market, or food co-op, etc, make sure your listing is in the directory. Use the search tools on this page.

If you're an enthusiastic local food eater, make sure to register your interest so growers and suppliers in your area realise that there is a demand for local food.

As more people get involved, we'll establish a "matching service" which will allow you to receive automatic notices of any local food networks in your area.

If you'd like to help us with this project, please drop us a line.

Help re-build this site: get involved and Chip-in!

We've come a long way in the nearly 10 years since this site was launched by Jude Fanton in the Blue Mountains with our friends from Culture Lab. The Community Foods site actually delivered social networking and cool maps before such things even existed on the web.

But the time has truly come for a change. This old site is barely creaking along and causes people hassles with their accounts for no good reason. After all, this is about healthy, local food, not technology, right?

So we're on a mission now: fix up the site and get it back inbto service as soon as possible. We reckon we need about $10,000 to help offset the costs of technical contractors where we need them. Can you help?

This project is totally not-for-profit, ad-free, and dedicated to community service. Be a hero and help yourself by helping the site!

Finding certified organic products is as easy as looking for a label, such as the BFA logo above. BFA also has a listing of retailers in your state to help you get started.

Get involved!

We're excited about a new kind of food economy based on seasonal, locally-produced food. "Eating local" is definitely good for you and your community...but it's not some sort of protest campaign. It's a living process of connecting with your neighbours and the land you call home.

There are many ways to get involved. Start this week by putting your food dollars into the local farmers' market or food co-op.

This website offers a free "directory" service where you can register your household's interest in eating local food. In time, more and more producers will see that there is enough demand from their neighbours to both feed you and feed themselves. It only takes about 5 minutes to register.
